Cowpea Pest Management in Liberia
Carrie Teiken was recently selected by ACDI/VOCA to participate in the Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Program, a U.S. government program funded through USAID. The program promotes sustainable economic growth, food security, and agricultural development worldwide through volunteer technical assistance. Carrie was assigned to work with a women managed cooperative in Liberia known as the Gbehlay Geh Rural Women Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society (GRWFMCS). She developed a cowpea integrated pest management curriculum and guide to monitor and control pests in the field, and reduce cowpea postharvest losses in storage. She also conducted a two-week training-of-trainer session for over 35 farmers from Nimba County in Northern Liberia, with intended outreach to over 230 farmers.
