Research:

My research focuses on the biology, epidemiology, and control of Peronospora effusa, the causal agent of spinach downy mildew disease. Spinach downy mildew affects most cultivable varieties of spinach, and is an especially severe disease in organic crops, which rely heavily on resistance to manage epidemics. Disease has been particularly severe in recent years with the emergence of new pathogen races that have overcome successive resistance genes. I am interested in spatial and temporal patterns of disease, as well as the biology of the causal agent, P. effusa.
